Influenced by both the personal and the political, sculptor Renee Couture draws inspiration from the historical and social landscape of place. Using her own rural community as a starting point, she articulates the complexity and range of the public’s relationship with the land. Couture is an artist-in-residence at PLAYA at Summer Lake.

On the shores of Summer Lake in south Central Oregon, PLAYA offers creative individuals space, solitude and community. PLAYA’s residencies are open to visual artists, writers, performance artists, scientists, naturalists, and individuals engaged in interdisciplinary work or forms of creative research. PLAYA supports Bend Art Center with two residencies each year—one for an artist of the A6 Print Studio, and one for the Best in Show winner of our biennial exhibit.
