A favorite printing technique of Picasso, a color reduction print uses one wood or linoleum block to print multiple colors. Colors overlaid and printed in succession; after each printing, the block is “reduced” or cut away to preserve areas of freshly printed color. Learn how to design, carve and print a three-color reduction print using the material of your choice. This class includes demonstrations and discussions of relief carving, the reduction process, printing, registration, and paper selection. Bring some 8 x 10 color sketches to class. All tools and supplies provided except for wood-carving tools. (See supply list for recommendations.) Past relief printing experience is helpful but not required.
