A6’s new biennial takes a ‘less is more’ approach, with an exhibit of pint-sized prints no larger than 4×6 inches. “Small Prints ‘16” is an eclectic mix of linocuts, woodcuts, etchings, silkscreens, collagraphs, and mezzotints from printmakers across the U.S.

The opening reception features local musician Joel Gray on acoustic guitar. Macarena Villagra, July’s Featured Member Artist, will also be printing in the studio during the opening reception. “Small Prints ‘16” will be on display through August 26, 2016.

Pam Hobert from Bainbridge Island, Washington was honored with the “Best in Show” award, a two-week artist residency at PLAYA at Summer Lake. Three additional artists were awarded $100 materials prizes donated by Dan Weldon Solarplate, McClains Printmaking Supplies and Gamblin Artist Colors. The exhibit was juried by professor James Thompson of Willamette University.

Admission to the exhibit is free. The exhibit is available for viewing during regular gallery hours: Mondays-Fridays 10-7 pm, Saturdays 10-6 pm and Sundays 12-5 pm.



Playa supports A6’s two biennial exhibits—our national Small Prints and our international Artist Books exhibit—with a coveted two-week artist residency for the Best in Show winner.

Playa at Summer Lake is a retreat for creative individuals who are committed and passionate about their work, and who will benefit from time spent in a remote location. Playa’s artist residencies provides the time and space to create substantive work or to research and reflect upon one’s creative or scientific processes. Away from the urgencies of daily life, residents can focus on their projects, immerse in a desert landscape of basin and rangeland, and find inspiration through self-directed inquiry. PLAYA is a nonprofit organization supporting innovative thinking through work in the arts, literature, natural sciences and other fields of creative inquiry. A6 (Atelier 6000) is a non-profit studio and gallery in Bend, Oregon centered on printmaking and book arts. A6 offers on-going classes and workshops; upcoming classes are posted at A6 has more than 30 local Artist Members; the A6 studio is the only publicly-accessible printmaking facility in Central Oregon. A6 presents monthly exhibits of contemporary prints and artist books in its gallery. A6 participates in Bend’s First Friday Gallery Walk.

A6 is open Monday-Friday from 10-7 pm, Saturday 10-6 pm and Sunday 12-5 pm.
